TZANEEN-Drink spiking is when someone puts drugs or alcohol in a drink of another person without their knowledge. It is considered illegal and a criminal offense, whatever the intent and must be reported.
Police have raised alarm as the festive season revs up to bars, restaurants and or tavern goers to beware and be on the lookout. According to police, numerous reports have recently surfaced of patrons who have become victims of such incidences who were mostly women who ended up being killed or raped.
An unsuspecting person whose drink may have been spiked will become unconscious, disoriented and may pass out.
Experts have weighed in and given tips on how to stay safe while eating out or hanging out with friends at alcohol selling hang out spots. They have warned that because spiked drinks are odourless and tasteless, it is advisable to watch a drink being poured and never leave it unattended and to never accept drinks from strangers.
If you suspect your drink has been spiked report the incident at your nearest police station.
