ALGERIA: Vicky Mkhawana has almost single-handedly led South Africa to the knockout phase of the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations under 17.
The lanky striker from Dan Village in Greater Tzaneen scored three goals in three games to lead Amajimbos to the quarterfinals of the continental showpiece.
The 17 – year old found the net on Saturday evening when he opened the scoring against Nigeria to add on the two goals he scored in the tie against Zambia a few days later.
Those goals were vital in helping Amajimbos advance to the next round of the competition as the best 3rd-place side.
In the quarterfinals, South Africa now has a date with Senegal on Wednesday, the 10th of May for a date in the last four of the AFCON Under 17.
Mkhawana and Co will be expected to put up a fight they showed in the group phase if they are to have any chance of reaching the semis.
