TOPANAMA — A suspect was arrested on Thursday evening by vigilant community patrollers after being found in possession of food items allegedly stolen from Thabeng Primary School, situated in Topanama outside Khutjwana village.
The incident unfolded when the community patrollers, who have been on high alert due to a recent spate of thefts in the area, noticed suspicious behavior near the school premises.
Upon investigating, they discovered the suspect carrying a large bag containing various food items such as Tin fish, vegetables, bread etc.
The patrollers immediately apprehended the individual and alerted the local authorities.
The food items are believed to have been stolen from the school’s kitchen, which provides meals to the students as part of the government’s school feeding program.
This program is essential for many children in the area, where food insecurity remains a significant challenge.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was handed over to the police and is currently in custody. He is expected to face charges of burglary and theft.
Thabeng Primary School’s management expressed their gratitude to the community patrollers for their quick and decisive action, which prevented further losses and ensured the safety of the school’s resources. They also urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help combat crime in the area.
