PRETORIA-The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has removed Mzwanele Manyi from his position as chief whip in the National Assembly, appointing Colleen Makhubele as his successor.

The announcement was made by MK Party deputy leader John Hlophe, who informed party members that Manyi was “relieved of his duties with immediate effect.” Hlophe expressed gratitude for Manyi’s service and urged members to support Makhubele in her new role, stating, “We are confident she will lead with strength and vision as we continue to advance our collective mission.”

Manyi’s dismissal follows internal disputes within the party. Sources indicate that his leadership style, described by some as arrogant, contributed to his removal.

A senior party official remarked, “His arrogance finally caused him to fall on his sword. He fails to listen and protect his caucus and wants to shine in the media alone and not give anyone a chance.”

Colleen Makhubele, former Johannesburg council speaker, has experienced a steady rise within the MK Party. She previously resigned from the South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA) to join the MK Party, citing it as a “beacon of hope to unite and rally African leaders and their people.”

The leadership change comes as the MK Party seeks to solidify its influence in South African politics. Makhubele’s appointment is seen as a move to bring a more collaborative and unifying approach to the party’s parliamentary activities.

Manyi, who joined the MK Party in August 2024 after leaving the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has not publicly commented on his dismissal.

As the MK Party navigates this transition, further developments are anticipated regarding its internal dynamics and strategic direction.
