COGHSTA MEC Visits Victims Of Giyani Disaster

GIYANI-Following a devastating thunderstorm and hail that caused havoc in many areas of the Greater Giyani Municipality, MEC for COGHSTA Mr. Basikopo Makamu visited several homes of the victims at Dzingidzingi, Mphakane, and Munghonghoma village on Saturday, 13 March 2021.
He was accompanied by GGM Mayor Cllr Shibambu Basani Agnes and teams from the Disaster Management Units.
Addressing the affected families, MEC Makamu said that his visit was about finding first-hand information as well as consoling the victims who suffered some losses as a result of the thunderstorm.
“We have brought everyone from the disaster management unit to ensure that proper damage assessment is done and followed through with some tangible solutions”, added the MEC.
He continued by promising the victims that some temporary relief in the form of food parcels will be distributed starting from Monday,15 March 2021, and that the local Mayor will oversee the process.
Meanwhile, the MEC was impressed to discover that most of the victims were already doing some work in terms of repairs on their damaged houses.
“This is commendable indeed, our people are taking responsibility instead of waiting for government.
“We have taken stock of your loses and will come back with some form of assistance”. He concluded
