RUNNYMEDE-A child was killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident during community protest at Runnymede under Greater Tzaneen on Monday afternoon.
The protesters were demanding the release of a community member arrested for the murder of one person and suspected of mob justice.
“It is alleged that at 15.45pm, a child was knocked by a vehicle on Mavela road. The driver failed to stop after the accident. The paramedics responded to the scene, they found a primary school who had succumbed to injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.
SAPS were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Meanwhile, the man who is in custody caught the burglars in a camera breaking into his house mobilised the community to search the suspects and assaulted them. One suspect died during the beating another one is in the hospital fighting for his life.
His stolen goods, including a television, were later discovered in Khujwana Village.
The residents were demanding that the police must release the victim of the stolen property, the situation is currently calm after police we ordered to monitor the situation.
