CRIME

GIYANI– The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has strongly condemned the incident in which a 40-year-old biological father of a 15-year-old girl and the alleged boyfriend of the minor (25) were on Tuesday, 27 October 2020 arrested for rape and statutory rape.

It is alleged that the father from a Village in the Giyani policing area, went out to look for the victim after she left home on Saturday, 24 October 2020. He then found her at her boyfriend’s place. Immediately after that, he took her to the police station to open a case of statutory rape.

“The police informed the local social worker for further assessment. It was then revealed that the victim’s father also raped her on separate occasions in 2019 and 2020 and thereafter threatened her not to tell anyone. Both suspects were then arrested immediately”, said General Ledwaba

General Ledwaba said that as we continue to fight against the scourge of Gender-Based Violence including sexual offenses, it is very disturbing that even those meant to protect their children are also involved in these crimes. We commend the police for acting swiftly in arresting both suspects.

The suspects will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 October 2020 facing charges of rape and statutory rape.

“The Police investigations are continuing”, he concluded
