Bolobedu taxi owner in court for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

BOLOBEDU-  Timothy Rabothata (32) appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate Court on 19 February 2024 to face charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The matter was remanded to 27 February 2024 for bail application.

The accused alleged to be a taxi owner was arrested at Marirone village outside Tzaneen on Friday, 19 February 2024 during an intelligence-led disruptive operation conducted by Phalaborwa-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) assisted by Polokwane Tactical Respose Team and  Crime Intelligence.

The operation focused on addressing the proliferation of illegal firearms in the affected areas within Limpopo Province.

During the arrest, the accused was allegedly found in possession of a Makarov pistol and ammunition.  The firearm was inspected and its serial number had been filled off.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province, Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender has applauded the team for the wonderful job.
