SEKHIMING VILLAGE-Legadima Malatji who hails from Sekhiming village, in Bolobedu, Greater Letaba, is a resilient farmer who despite challenges works passionately.
In an interview with Tzaneen Voice, Malatji narrated how he took over the 12 hectares farm that produces spinach, tomatoes, chillies and cabbage from his late father who passed away a few years ago.
“I loved gardening while I was growing up and I believe that it’s where I developed the love for farming. I use to help my father with his crops until he passed away. I became demotivated for a while after his passing and gathered the courage this year to take the baton and run with it”, Malatji said.
The farmer highlighted that he has faced multiple setbacks but has persevered nonetheless. He roped in his uncle Vuyo Maake to assist him to mitigate the challenges.
“There are many challenges. We lack farming equipment like pumps. We also need seedlings and manure and would also want to change the farm name to mine but unfortunately failed because government processes are tedious and lengthy”, he added.
In conclusion, Malatji encouraged unemployed people to work the land to contribute to the economy.
A bundle of spinach is priced at R15. Customers can contact Malatji at 072 474 6398 or his partner on the number 060 745 3724 or email legadimamalatji@gmail.com for orders.
