Ga-MAPHALLE- The 21-year-old Karabo Mapitlula from Ga-Maphalle village under Greater Letaba Municipality takes a bold and inspirational decision to go back to school to repeat his matric.
While his peers have probably finished with tertiary education or are gainfully employed in their respective career fields, Karabo found the courage to swallow his pride to redo his matric.
The local comedian Karabo Mapitlula initially did his matric in 2019 at Khesethwane High School, however, his passing grades (Higher certificate) were not impressive enough to qualify him for admission at the higher learning institution (tertiary).
After he couldn’t get enough grades to qualify for admission at the tertiary institution, the local comedian kept himself busy with piece jobs locally and also shooting comedy videos with his friend Ntsako the poet.
In what he labels as foolish but the best decision for a 21-year-old to take, he says his decision to go back to school was inspired by the known South African xitsonga musician Benny Mayengani, who obtained a first degree at the age of 44
” Benny Mayengane inspired me to take my studies seriously because as a comedian I need to have education as comedy won’t sustain me forever,” he said.
He said he swallowed his pride and approached the principal of Modisha high school, based in Ga-Maphalle to request admission and fortunately the principal didn’t give him a tough time and accepted him.
The 21-year-old Karabo will join the 2023 Modisha High-school matric class on Wednesday, the 12, to renew his hope of breaking into the institution of higher learning to pursue his dreams.
