Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality offers R50k for reporting electricity infrastucture theft

PHALABORWA- Ba-Phalaborwa local municipality is offering a R50 000 reward for valuable information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of criminals who are behind the theft of the municipal copper cables and transformers.

The Municipality has put forward a monetary reward of 50k to the residents of Ba-Phalaborwa whose information will lead to the successful arrest and prosecution of criminals who steal the municipality electrical infrastructures.

This comes after the recent theft of municipal electrical infrastructure at Selati sub-station in Phalaborwa, which has caused the municipal council to suffer losses of undisclosed millions in replacing the stolen electrical infrastructure.

The Ba-phalaborwa municipal spokesperson Jonas Mahesu said the municipality is recently experiencing a high increase of electrical cable theft.

” There is a high increase of copper cable theft and transformers in Phalaborwa and in trying to curb the surge of this theft, the council has decided to offer R50 000 monetary reward to anyone reporting these criminal incidents, which will lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible” Mahesu said.

Theft of Electrical infrastructure cases can be reported to the Police and the municipality Risk Management Unit at 015 780 6364/6300.
