BELA-BELA – A 34-year-old male driver was arrested on the N1 freeway near Bela-Bela after being caught driving at a shocking speed of 176km/h in a 120km/h zone.
The arrest was made during routine speed enforcement operations by traffic authorities in the Waterberg District.
The motorist was detained on the spot and is expected to appear in court soon on charges related to reckless and negligent driving.
The Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport has reiterated its call for motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly. “Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of fatal crashes on our roads,” said the department in a statement.
They further urged motorists to prioritise safety, saying: “Let us work together to prevent accidents and protect lives. Follow speed limits, stay focused, and arrive alive.”
Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
