MODIMOLLE – Another fatal accident has been reported on the N1 near Modimolle, forcing the temporary closure of the road on Friday afternoon.
According to initial reports, the N1 southbound remains closed approximately 20km after Modimolle, just before the Kranskop Toll Plaza.
The incident has caused major traffic disruptions, with an estimated backlog stretching at least 15km in both directions.
The situation worsened when some southbound motorists attempted to use the right northbound lane to bypass the congestion, creating further chaos and increasing the risk of secondary accidents.
Emergency services and traffic authorities are currently on the scene, working to clear the roadway and restore traffic flow.
Motorists are urged to remain patient, avoid reckless manoeuvres, and consider delaying travel or using alternative routes until the scene is cleared.
