KGAPANE- Irate community members of Itieleng village, Kgapane, in the Greater Letaba Municipality, confronted and subsequently burnt down an RDP house belonging to a house break-in suspect terrorising the village.
It is reported that the incident happened on Thursday evening, September 22 around 21:00.
It is alleged that the suspect and his two accomplices broke into a house around the village, shot the owner on the leg, stole a few valuables and fled the scene. It is reported further that the cctv camera’s installed on the premises revealed the faces of the suspects and one of them was identified.
According to a resident who was there when the incident happened, the community was then mobilized to confront the suspect at his home.
“After the burglary, the family that was robbed raised an alarm. We assembled and went to the house the suspect shares with his mother. Unfortunately, the mother told us that the suspect was not home while he was inside the house. She left us there under the disguise of going to fetch him but never returned. We decided to enter the house and search and we found him”, anonymous said.
It is said that the community then proceeded to ransack the house. Upon searching the house, a gun, TV, cell phones and other goods that are believed to have been stolen over time were recovered. The house was subsequently burned down as a result.
The suspect was not arrested although Police and security officials arrived at the scene. There was also no case opened.
