LENYENYE- The R36 road near Vento Park outside Lenyenye has been engulfed in heavy smoke as angry protesters have taken to the streets, burning tyres and blockading the road in protest against load reduction measures.
The demonstrations, which began on Sunday evening in Dan Village, have escalated, leaving motorists stranded and unable to pass through the area.
The community is voicing their frustration, demanding an immediate end to load reduction, a policy implemented to manage electricity demand but causing frequent power cuts.
These power outages have severely impacted residents’ daily lives, with complaints ranging from disrupted businesses to safety concerns.
As the situation intensifies, law enforcement has urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching the area.
Alternative routes are being recommended to avoid the protest zone, with motorists warned of potential delays.
This latest shutdown is part of a growing trend of community protests in the region, where residents have been vocal about service delivery issues, including water and electricity shortages.
The situation remains tense as local authorities have yet to respond to the demands of the protesters.
