Aggressive buffalos on the loose in Phalaborwa, Community armed with pangas vowed to hunt them

PHALABORWA- Three buffalos have been seen running loose after escaping from their enclosure in Phalaborwa on Monday morning, officials warned members of the public to be alert.

The buffalos were spotted roaming around the street of Makhushane Village and residents armed with knives, axes, machetes vowed to hunt down the wild animals.

Officials from Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism were called to the scene but failed to shoot down the animals for the fear of missing a target and a stray bullet hitting one of the residents.

Due to the nature of this animals herding and stampeding characteristics this obviously causes a safety concern for the public.

Officials cautioned pedestrians and drivers alike to keep away from the animals.

“Do not approach the buffalo or disturb them in any way,” they warned. “Stay clear of them with your vehicles if you encounter them on the roadway.”

It is not clear where the buffalos escaped from.
