A 36-year-old car smuggler arrested near Mall of the North in Polokwane

POLOKWANE: Members of SAPS Provincial Anti-smuggling Task Team together with private security companies arrested a 36-year-old male suspect, following a tip-off about a stolen vehicle believed to have been intended to be smuggled out of the country.

The vehicle was traced and stopped while travelling from Gauteng to Beitbridge POE (Port of Entry). The suspect was arrested on Thursday, 25 April 2024, at the N1 bypass next to Mall of the North in Polokwane.

The operational members positively followed the information and spotted the described Charcoal Toyota Rav 4 vx edition and  tactically approached and  stopped it

Preliminary investigations established that the vehicle was reported stolen at Silverton, Gauteng province. The suspect aged 36 was then arrested for possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Police Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has lauded the teams that participated and ensured that the suspect was apprehended.

He will soon appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

The Police investigations are continuing.
