A 20-year-old man in court after hitting stepfather to death with a brick

POLOKWANE – The Acting Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has strongly condemned the murder of a 68-year-old man at his friend’s home in Ramotshinyadi Village, Mokwakwaila policing area under Mopani District in the early hours of Sunday 04 February 2024 at about 04:00.

Police responded to the complaint of murder at a local clinic after the elderly man succumbed to the injuries upon arrival.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who is the deceased’s stepson returned from the local tavern in the early hours where he found the elderly couple asleep.

Suddenly, a fight ensued between the son and the old man, resulting in the victim being hit with a brick on the forehead and he collapsed. The suspect then fled the scene.

The members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned and the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the local clinic.

The 20-year-old suspect was traced and apprehended shortly after the incident.

Major General Scheepers commended the swift arrest of the suspect and urged the communities to refrain from resorting to violence when faced with domestic related challenges.

The suspect appeared before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, February 06 facing charges of murder.
