29-year-old SAPS constable killed in the line of duty laid to rest in Bolobedu.

SHAMFANA—The management of Atteridgeville police station led by the National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola bid farewell to Constable Katlego Arnold Lefaka who died in the line of duty.

The funeral service was held at Shamfana (Shamiriri A) village in Bolobedu outside Giyani on Saturday morning.

Constable Lefaka was shot and wounded when he was responding to a complaint at an identified address in Sinoville.

He later succumbed to his gunshot wounds in hospital.

Three suspects have since been arrested and have already appeared in court on charges of murder and  illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. According to General Masemola three more suspects are still at large.

Major General Mashava representing Mopani district, Brigadier Kushie Petersen representing Tshwane district and  Atteridgeville police station commander, Brigadier Moeti Rapitsi were in attendance.

Constable Lefaka was 29 years of age and had served SAPS for 4 years and 66 days.He was described as a dedicated, committed and community orientated police officer who always put the needs of his community before his own.

General Fannie Masemola says R25 million rand has been set aside to enhance police safety initiatives.
