17th annual Marula festival organisers optimistic despite low turnout

PHALABORWA-The 17th Annual Marula festival youth Dance Movement supported by the Limpopo Department of economic development (LEDET) was held on Saturday, April 15 at Impala Park Stadium in Phalaborwa.

However, the event was hit by a massive low turnout compared to the previous years.

LEDET Spokesperson Calais Matlala told Tzaneen Voice that the youth dance movement was the introduction of the main festival which is coming on Saturday, April 22.

“As the department, we are happy that the people of phalaborwa managed to take their time to attend the festival and we are very much confident that the festival will grow from strength to strength particularly since we have emerged from the covid 19 pandemic,” he said

Among the artist who performed were King Monada, Musa Keys, Master kg, Dj Sammy de Deep, Dj H.tee, C boy & Richie Teanet, PHB finest, Maredi tsa manyalo, Papa Rhulani and Maleboo.

Thabo Mongwe one of the young people who attended the festival said the event was not sufficiently marketed on all platforms that are normally used by youth which might be the cause of the poor turnout of youth.

Mongwe says in the entire Phalaborwa no poster says there will be a festival which was a big concern amongst youth as they were not sure if the festival is happening or cancelled nevertheless as young people we defied the odds and attended it.

On Friday the 21 April the will be a comedy night in the Lulekani community hall followed by a family marathon on Saturday in the morning and at night there will be the main festival which will be held at Impala Park Stadium.

Tsakani Nkuna an entrepreneur hopes that the main festival next Saturday will be better for business as she doesn’t want to return home with unsold stock.
