MOKGOLOBOTO-Police have allegedly shot and injured a 17-year-old boy Akani Mathye with live ammunition as the service delivery protest at Mokgoloboto intensifies on Tuesday morning.
The Magoza High school grade 10 learner was rushed to a local hospital after he was allegedly shot on the hand and started bleeding heavily.
An eyewitness says the police were going house to house trying to find suspected looters and Mathye was caught in cross fire when he was on his way home.
One family said some protesters were shot by rubber bullet but Mathye was shot by live ammunition and she doesnt why the police want to kill young and innocent soul who was part of the protest.
Angry residents continued to barricade the R36 road in Mokgoloboto to Dan area.
This is despite the Mopani District Municipality confirming that supply at some areas that receive water from the Nkowankowa water works has been restored.
The service delivery protest saw major economic activities disrupted due to the closure of the road.
During the closure of business in the area, protesters looted Bendzulani Liquor store and other business in the area.
Residents say they have been without water for the past two months and are also calling for the Greater Tzaneen Municipality and power utility Eskom, to do away with the constant load reduction that affects them daily.
