MOIME -A 14-year-old girl from Moime village under Greater Tzaneen is on the verge of dropping charges levelled against her grandfather.

The teenager had opened a case of sexual assault after her 53 – year old grandfather allegedly touched her private parts.

The incident took place at their homestead in Moime village on October 17th 2022 while the girl was still 12 years of age.

In the statement that this publication has seen, the grandfather allegedly told the victim that he wants to ‘feel her’ private parts before boys her age do.

She therefore told her grandmother and a case of sexual harassment was opened at Maake Police Station.

The grandfather was arrested and granted bail.

What throws a spanner in the works is that the case is now on the verge of being withdrawn after the teenager claimed that she was “emotional” when she opened the case.

“My grandfather only told me to stay away from the boys and I guess I jumped to conclusions and opened a case of harassment against him. I’m now Okay and I want to drop the charges,” parts of the affidavit read.

This publication has also learnt that both the teenager and her grandfather were no longer coming to court.

The case will return to the Lenyenye Magistrate’s Court on the 24th of April and it remains to be seen if they will make an appearance.
