POLOKWANE- 12 vehicle testing station officials, Magalela Brian Mpala (40), Satekge Khutso Lea (33), Manduna Thabelo (35 ), Bokaba Itumeleng Esrom (42), Sape Gloria Kholofela (30), Sumbana Isaac (32), Sebela Makgwale Adelaid (47), Mabunda Leah Tsholofelo (29), Mkhonto Sello Perseverance (36), Moloto Francis (46), Masonto Lydia Magdelina (30) and Nhleko Nontobeko (32) appeared in the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Court today, 22 June 2023 facing charges of fraud and forgery.
It is alleged that between January 2019 and April 2021, the accused who were examiners and cashiers at Polokwane Private Vehicle Testing Station in the Region of Limpopo issued forty-five (45) vehicle roadworthy certificates without physically inspecting the vehicles.
It is further alleged that the accused used the particulars of an unsuspecting victim to process and issue the roadworthy certificates without his knowledge or consent.
The case docket of fraud and forgery was opened at Westernburg police station and transferred to Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further handling.
The operation named ‘Shot Left’ was conducted between the Polokwane-based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation and Road Traffic Management Corporation’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
The team successfully traced and arrested 13 suspects in different Provinces including Limpopo, Gauteng and Kwa Zulu-Natal between 08 and 29 May 2023.
All 13 suspects were warned to appear in court, only 12 appeared as one(1) has passed on. The matter was postponed to 16 August 2023 for a possible plea.
